Hello, I am from Muraski Elementary School in Strongsville. Hugh came to our school yesterday and gave a GREAT talk with our students. My Fifth grader enjoyed seeing Hugh and learning so much. My first grader came home and couldn't stop talking about the role of the female dogs on the sled. She recited how they "are lighter, and have heart and the male dogs would fall through the ice if they went first." We would definitely recommend Hugh to come to every school.
Thank you Jane Ludwig

Hugh Neff grew up in Evanston, Illinois near Chicago and moved to Alaska in 1996 with his two dogs Maverik and R.E.L. – his dream was to become one of the best dogmen in Alaska. He started by working with famous dog mushers and living with the natives in small Athabascan villages. Gradually he acquired a few dogs through his hard work and started entering the local native village’s sprint races. From there he moved into the world of long distance races and entered his first Yukon Quest race in 2000. With an ever growing dog yard he moved to the town of Coldfoot and trained for a few years in the Brooks Range and the Gates of the Arctic National Park. Over the last four years in the Yukon Quest his squad has slowly moved up in place in what is considered the “World’s Toughest Race” This year Hugh moved down to Nenana, near Denali National Park and entered the “Last Great Race” – The Iditarod. His one dream was finally realized as he crossed the finish line in Nome with the added title of “Rookie of the Year”. The history of Laughing Eyes Kennel is more than a story of people, places, and races. The true story lies in the dogs themselves. Hugh would like to share some of his stories and talk to kids not only about his dawgs, dog mushing, and Alaska but also about becoming involved in their community, spiritual enhancement, positive energy, and pursuing one’s dreams. We are establishing a Spoken Word tour to promote ‘good fellowship’ via the Alaskan Dog Mushing lifestyle.
The Spoken Word Tour – Fall 2005
