Iditarod: Finished in 26th place in 10 days, 22 hours, and 59 min.
Quest and the Iditarod. Quite a feat considering there was only 10 days between
the two to recover. The Yukon Quest was really exciting with Hugh and Lance
leading the race the last 500 miles. In the end William caught them on the last
day and finished between them. Definitely made for an exciting finish though,
and we were very happy with 3rd place. Leaves some room for improvement for
this year! Hugh then went on to do the Iditarod with some new dogs, and some
amazing dogs that had just finished the Quest (Maestro, June-Mari, Blaze,
Mahoosic, and Hans). Hugh and the team spent most of the race in the top 20 and
ended up finishing 26th. The drop in positions happened due to a virus hitting the
team near the end of the race, causing Hugh to have to drop more dogs than he'd
have liked and a slow pace from White Mtn, to Nome. While happy to finish he
was a bit disappointed with his finishing position, so he's decided to do it all again
this year! Hugh has signed up again for both the Yukon Quest and the Iditarod,
but this year we'll have a handler, Dean Rosiar who will be running Laughing
Eyes Kennel dogs in the Quest, and all going well the Iditarod too.
